Brief Description:  Riveted the firewall

After doing all of that preparation work on the firewall and all of the bits to be riveted to the firewall, it was time to commence riveting. First, I dimpled the holes in the firewall. Back riveting seemed like the thing to do, so I placed all of the correct size rivets into the front of the firewall and taped them in with riveting tape. Then, I turned the firewall over and placed the angle stiffeners and weldments on the rivets. Before placing the lower angle stiffener, I buttered the back with proseal (the reappearance of black death) so that oil and fumes will not leak into the cockpit once the engine is installed and running. Using the back rivet set to drive the rivets was a snap. I have heard of other people taking 3 hours to rivet the firewall. It took me less than one hour. Next, I had to fabricate two doubler plates for the rudder cable attachment points and then rivet them to the firewall. It was a fun night. Not everything went 100% right. I had to drill out several rivets. But all in all, it was good.
