Brief Description: Drilled Z brackets for fuel tanks
I have been off the job for several days. Every evening is filled with some sort of Christmas party or meeting. I ordered 300 more 3/32 clecoes and a quart of proseal from Vans. While I am waiting for delivery, I am trying to get ready for the fuel tank construction.Tonight, I tackled the fuel tank Z brackets. After reading many internet logs of builders, I decided to depart from the plans and use Dan Checkoway's patented method of fitting and drilling the Z brackets so that the fuel tanks fit perfectly.First, I drilled a single hole in the middle of one flange of each Z bracket (offset 1/16 in.). Then, I bolted the Z brackets to the spars and squared them. Then, I back drilled the Z brackets from the spars. I would have started the nutplates, but I need to buy a tap to tap out 3 of the nutplates so that I can use them for drilling jigs, as per Dan's plan.It was good to get back on the project.
