Tonight I bolted the left aileron push rod to the aileron drive and the control stick. I did not have to move the rod end bearings even one half turn. The bold slid right in with the ailerons in the neutral position and the joy stick standing straight up. Awesome! Next, the plans call for attaching the flaps to the wing trailing edge. The only problem is that the drawings have a cryptic message about trimming the top flap skin with some template. However, the plans don't bother telling you exactly where the template goes on the flap skin. I marked out where I thought it should go, but it just did not look kosher. So, I went to the internet and saw where other builders had the same problem. Rather than cut the flap wrong, I decided to take extreme measures. I hopped in the car and drove 30 minutes to the Lawrenceville airport so that I could inspect Mike Stewart's RV-8. Sure enough, his flaps showed me that I would have cut them wrong if I had proceeded as planned. After returning home, I repositioned the template to the right place on the flaps and then cut away the top skin. It is not the final cut, but I can see where some fine tuning will get me where I need to be.
