Brief Description:  More Nut Plate Mania!

I got home just at sunset (daylight savings time expired last Sunday) to find the Avery box placed by the garage door. I received by #6 and #8 screw countersinks. After dinner I started a little early (about 7pm instead of my normal 8pm starting time) and began countersinking the #8 tank screw holes in the spar flange. It was a tedious process of placing the backing plate under the flange, lining it up with a #20 drill bit, clamping the backing plate on with cleco clamps, removing the drill bit locator, countersinking the hole and finally checking it for depth with a #8 screw. As Dan Checkoway says, "lather, rinse, repeat." Next, I did the same thing for the #6 screw holes for the inspection plates. Halfway through these holes, I discovered that I did not need the backing plate because the countersink did not go that deep into the flange. Not so bad, with only 12 countersunk holes per spar. Then, I "spot primed" the countersunk holes where the anodizing had been removed by masking off the subject areas and hitting them with my rattle can self etching primer.Last, I set the tank plate nuts in the top of one spar with the pneumatic squeezer. Enough for tonight. Boy are my arms tired!
