Brief Description:  Fabricated shims for the side of the instrument pa

Over the past week, I have been getting ready to go to the Sun-N-Fun flyin in Lakeland Florida. I was supposed to leave this afternoon, but the whole route was full of thunderstorms. I could have driven, but I have vowed to never drive or fly commercial to another flyin. After the Good Lord saw fit to give me back my medical license, I will never take flying for granted again. As it looks now, tomorrow will still be too stinky to fly, so it looks like Sunday will be getaway day. I can't wait. Since I had an extra night, I decided to do a little work on the fuselage. First, I deburred the holes in the cockpit bulkheads where I drilled for the seatback weldment support plates. Then, I fabricated some shims for the gap at the lower corners of the instrument panel bulkhead where it meets the top skin. Taking the advice of others who had this gap, I fashioned shims from some .063" aluminum cut 2-1/2" x 1/2". Then, I used the belt sander to bevel the shims to account for the gap. Finally, I taped the shims onto the flange of the instrument panel bulkhead and used the skin holes to drill them. Worked fairly well. Now, on to Sun-N-Fun.
