Brief Description:  Belly flop

Tonight there was bad news and good news. The bad news is that I finished drilling the forward belly skin before Sam Beale came over to help. Everything looked good until I unclecoed the belly skin and saw that I had completely blown the edge distance for one side of the skin. That was the part that tucked under the side skins, so I could not really see it before I began drilling. A closer look at the plans revealed that I should have filed a part of the underlying longeron flat to achieve a better fit in that area. DOH! I briefly contemplated just letting it ride, but I can't do it. I ordered a new belly skin for about $40 (although I am sure shipping will be about the same amount). Stupidity has bought me another addition to my wall of shame (where I attach all of the pieces that I have screwed up). The good news was that Sam brought over some of the parts for his new RV-7A tail kit and we worked on his project for a while. After deburring and smoothing the edges of his horizontal stabilizer spars and doublers, we primed them in my garage. I was at that stage about 2-1/2 years ago. It is great to see Sam starting on his project.
