Brief Description: odds and ends before the canopy
No pictures.
I have not been doing a good job of keeping up the log for the past 10 days or so. However, I have been working.
My goal has been to get the canopy squared away. In order to do that, I whave been buttoning up a bunch of last minute tasks.
I primed and painted the underside of 7106 where it forms the glareshield.
I fixed a wiring error in the flap controller
I dismounted and remounted the roll bar strut
I primed the top side of the 7106 deck where the top of the dash will be inside the cockpit.
Then I needed to start riveting. I don't care what they say. Once the panel electronics are set, a lot of the riveting of the 7106 skin is f'ing impossible. You cannot buck those rivets - no way to get at them.
I did the rivets on the inside of the cockpit with CCC-32 stainless recessed rivets. I did the shear and pull out stress calculations, and by using stainless, the values are higher than driven rivets. They don't look perfect, but they look pretty good.
I was able to drive the rivets in the front bay of the 7106 panel with Rachel's help. Getting my 230 pound ass under that panel was tough - very tough.
I am going to rivet the longerons with CR3224 structrual rivets. I had to order them special, and I expect them in the next 3-4 days.
I finally gave up and did all the rivets in the ins
