Brief Description:  cleaned up electrical problems, installed gear

I spent the about 4 hours cleaning up some electrical concerns. I had a few wires running along the longeron without adequate abrasion protection. I pulled them back, and sheathed them all in braided wire loom.

I did not like my headphone and mike jack installation. I liked where it was, but not like how the neighboring metal was so close to the contacts. I installed everything, tightened it up, and then took out the continuity tester. I did have a short to ground. I cleaned that up and re-ran everything. No problems.

I bought a shop crane from Harbor Freight to pick up the airframe. I found a coupon online - $179 for a two ton crane. This thing will be perfect for the landing gear and the engine set. Spent about an hour and a half on sunday morning putting the thing together. Unlike a lot of harbor freight junk, this thing looks sweet. No problems in assemby, everthing fit. Exact number of parts.

I had all Sunday planned to put the landing gear on. I had my daughter's boyfriend on standby in the morning to help me out.

I was orienting the main gear, when I realized, I had the landing struts backwards. AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I had to take both main gears apart, dismount the brakes, take the wheels off, etc. etc. etc. 2 hours lost.

Got it all back together. Fortunately, Daniel was still available.

I used the shop crane to pick up the plane pulling from the motor mount. I had a saw horse under the tail for support, tied to the tie-down. The lift was a stabile as you could hope for. The front leg through the firewall fought us pretty hard (not enough grease). The main gear legs went in much easirer.

Now the plane is standing it's own! Very slick!

It is tail-heavy w/o the engine. I put a roller support under the tail temporarily. Tomorrow, I'll pick up 150# of sand from HD and suspend it from the motor mounts. Even so, I am going to rig up some additional tail support, should I ever have to crawl into the rear of the fuselage (if it tips, I could be tra
