Once the rudder skins were completely sealed, I could focus on attaching the tail light fairing. It was fiberglass and obviously wasn't paid much attention to when it was formed. The flat trailing edge wasn't flat at all, and the two halves didn't match up. It took a few hours, and many coats of fiberglass, but I eventually got it symmetrical. The trailing edge of the rudder is at an angle compared to the flying horizontal line of the aircraft, so the bracket bottom has to be offset away from the rudder slightly. Installation was pretty straightforeward. I didn't have short enough rivets toward the trailing edge, so I had to offset the facing ones slightly from each other. The nuts that go inside the fairing and hold on the actual light bracket were interesting to attach. I used an epoxy to set them, but trying to place them properly while not fusing the screws to the nuts was quite a chore! Once attached, I just used fiberglass patch to smooth the edge transition from rudder to fairing.
