Brief Description:  Fit up of Windshield.

The windshield is relatively big and difficult to handle with your arms stretched out over the airplane while standing on a ladder, so the first thing I did was make a couple little "L" brackets out of some 1/8" flat aluminum. I used cleko clamps to hold these in place on the upper windshield mounting brackets, and this allowed me to just set the plastic in place and slide it back and forth until centered, and double check everything before I drilled any holes to fasten it.

I marked and cut the windshield hold down strip per the manual using a dremel with a cut off wheel, sanding wheels, and finishing with various sanding blocks. When installing the hold down strip I started from the center and I made sure everything was exactly symmetrical as I worked out both directions from the center. After about 6 or 7 holes I found that the hold down strip was not going to lay down very nicely around the corner of the upper boot cowl, so I went back to the center and instead of maintaining perfect symmetry, I focused on getting the hold down strip to lay nicely. Doing this results in a slightly different path around the boot cowl between the left and right sides, but they are within 1/4", and it is impossible to detect without actually measuring it.

After the strip was installed it laid down pretty nice, but I decided to remove 1/4" from the forward edge, and that really let it find a nice home without any lifting or puckers.

Next weekend is the skylight! The task list continues to get smaller and smaller....
