Brief Description:  Painted the Cowl.

With the cowls primed with Slick Sand and sanded smooth, I sprayed a coat of epoxy primer on Friday evening to be ready Saturday morning.

My paint booth is located in my office building, and the airplane is located at my home, which is about 35 minutes away. The lower cowl needed all three colors, and they needed to be lined up with the colors already on the plane. This meant I spent most of my time driving back and forth to paint, and then mount and tape the lower cowl, and repeat.

Everything went well until I got to the clear, and I got orange peel - Ugh! I am not sure why. I was afraid of getting runs on the vertical surfaces, so I might have made the first pass a little too fast and light. I have a paint gun that I use for clears only, and I accidently poured primer in it earlier this week. I cleaned it all up as best I could, but as a precaution I sprayed a little straight acetone through the gun immediately before filling it with clear, and maybe this caused the orange peel. I also turned down the air pressure immediately before spraying - I am not sure what caused it, but I decided it is what it is, turned off the lights, and went home excited about finishing up the cowl.
