Brief Description:  Map Pockets and Carpeting

A single map / registration / misc pocket comes with the S-20 kit. I wanted one on both sides, so an oder to RANS yielded a map pocket for the copilots side of the cockpit.

The pockets were designed to be attached to the diagonal tube in the boot cowl area with a flap that is held in place with Velcro, and the bottom edge is intended to be zip tied to the lower tube through a pair of eyelets sewn into the fabric. Since I chose to install the lower closeout panels, access to the lower tube was not available. To resolve this I riveted some wire bundle mounting points to the top of the closeout panels which provided attachment points for the zip ties.

While I had previously installed the carpet pad I obtained from Rocky Mountain Kitplanes, there were two issues I wanted to address. The first was a comment from Glenn indicating that on his plane the screw holes elongated in the carpet and eventually failed, so he recommended supergluing the washers to the carpet. The second was noting that the carpet could slip and slide in the area my heels touched when operating the rudder pedals.

To rectify these items I first changed out the supplied washers with finishing washers from the local hardware store. The supplied washers are designed to accommodate a countersunk screw, but outside of the taper they are flat, so they don't grip the carpet very well. The finishing washers have a "cupped" geometry that offers a larger and more secure ring of support. In addition, I took Glenns advice and superglued the washers in place. To keep the carpet from slipping I added 2 more screws per side in the middle of where my heels touch.
