Brief Description:  Boot Rings and USB ports

While waiting for the seamstress to finish up my faux leather control stick boots I decided I wanted to improve the way they would be mounted. The boots are held in place with rivets and backing washers, and I thought it would be an upgrade to replace the backing washers with a metal ring that would better clamp the boot around its circumference.

To make the rings, I measured the existing interior panel and drew the ring out on CAD at work. I used .020" aluminum sheet, and with 3M77 applied to the metal only, stuck the full sized drawing to a stack of two plates. In cutting something like this, I always use a piece of sacrificial 1/4" plywood under the plates. It is amazing how much better the results are when the wood is used...

With the rings done, I just need to wait for the new boots to be completed before finishing up the interior panels for good.

I also made a last minute decision to add a USB power port. I originally was not going to do so as I was wanting to limit the electrical load on the alternator, but I finally admitted that I have reached a point where it is almost impossible to function without my phone, and every vehicle I own has a charge cable to make sure my phone stays alive for when I need it. I decided if I didn't put a USB port in the plane, I would forever miss it, so done deal.
