Brief Description:  Baggage Compartment Fabric.

Covered the baggage compartment in Micro-Suede fabric.

This was a learning process. The first thing I learned was to start with the smaller parts. I had to scrap two large pieces of fabric when my first attempt went bad. I tried to use a contact adhesive I have had excellent results with in the past, but the brush on glue soaked through the thin fabric and ruined it. I went to 3M 77 and had much better results, but even then I would get little blobs out of the spray can, which soaked through and left a pock-mark in the fabric. I cured this by wiping the spray nozzle clean after every pass across the fabric. I also learned to VERY carefully handle the fabric with glue applied. If it folds over and touches itself it is virtually ruined after you try to pull it apart.

The hardest part of this was the main "box". I covered one side, then taped it all off so it would get not get glue on it, then repeated with the other side, back, and finally the bottom. I cut the fabric close to size, applied the glue to both surfaces, used wax paper to get it positioned, removed the paper and stuck it in place, and finally trimmed it and glued down the edges.

To trim the edges of the bottom piece in the box, I first used a piece of wax paper that prevented about 2" of the edge to be trimmed from sticking in place. Then I used a piece of aluminum angle pushed in the corner of the box as a guide for a razor blade. It was not perfect, but worked pretty well, and the results look professional.

In the end, it turned out well, and by the time I was finished, I felt like I almost knew what I was doing....
