Brief Description:  New ADSB and drain lines.

Since my plane project was on hold during my divorce, I signed up for the ADSB replacement program Dynon offered to upgrade from my single band box to a dual band unit. Thank god I was not in a hurry because it took about a year to get the new component, but it finally did come.

The new unit is a little smaller, so I needed to make a new mounting plate, but I kept it in the same location in the upper right area of the foot box.

I had ordered wire and connectors to make the antenna cables which makes it easy to get nice and tidy wiring for these components. I can't remember where I got it, but I use a coaxial stripper that really keeps the stress levels in check. It took a few minutes to get it adjusted, but once set it is just seconds to prepare the wire. The center pin is designed to be crimped on, but my crimper just cut the pin in half, so I solder them in place through the witness hole. Judicious use of solder and a couple strokes with a file to clean up the excess makes everything fit nice. I bought a set of octagonal crimping jaws for my crimper frame to do the outer crimp, and then use a piece of heat shrink to make it all professional.

I also plumbed the drain lines for the oil tank overflow and the fuel pump. To get the oil line routing right the drain line fitting ended up pointing the wrong direction. I tried several times to get a layout I like using simple hose, but I either didn't like the routing or the hose would kink. I went to the local auto parts store and found a molded hose with a 180 degree turn in it - problem solved!! Gates part # 18206
