Brief Description:  Painted The Fuselage.

The PPG paints I am using require that the clear be applied within 24 hours of the color, which is a lot of work in a short period of time. I started putting the color on at10:00 Saturday morning and it was just before 6:00 the next morning when I went to bed with the color complete. Fixing a couple of issues and applying the clear took 8 hours on Sunday.

I had lots of issues, which I expected as a first time painter. In the end, they are all pretty slight, and although a professional painter could find them, I don't think the common airport bum will even notice - So I am pretty thrilled with the results!

It is really easy to get lines over hidden tubes when sanding the primer. To fix these I used my hobby airbrush to fill in the low spots and then re-sanded. For some areas I pushed the fabric from the inside so it would not contact the tube and this worked well except for one place where I sanded a small hole where my finger was pushing on the inside. I glued a small fabric patch on the inside using CA, and then filled the hole / low spot with CA and used the airbrush to finalize. It is impossible to see where this happened in the final paint.

At one point I knocked my paint gun out of its stand and it crashed on the floor. I wiped it all down, but half ways through the next side the paint gun let out a blob of paint about the size of a quarter. I think it came out of the lid seal, which was partially compromised when the gun fell. I pulled as much of the excess paint off as I could get with masking tape and moved on. You can see evidence of this in the final paint, but I would need to show you where to look.

I had some trouble with the fine line tape lifting in the sharp corners. After the color was done and all the masking was removed, these areas were easily fixed by masking off the over sprayed areas and using my hobby airbrush to paint over them.

Overall, I was filled with anxiety about this part of the build, but I am more than thrilled with the results!
