Brief Description:

I spent a reasonable chunk of the weekend working on the windscreen. This was complicated by the air quality in the 'unhealthy' Red range from all of the uncontained wildfires around us. So I was wearing a respirator almost the whole time. That, by the by, is less fun than it sounds. No wonder Darth Vader spent three movies being cranky. His face probably smelled like gym socks, and nobody is at their best when that's the case.

So I started out cutting and fitting cardboard templates for the windscreen, and finally moved on to cutting aluminum. The third picture shows the two pieces of aluminum clecoed into place. The front angle supports the main windscreen verticals, so it is 0,032". The lower spandrels are just there to look pretty and provide a surface for the side windscreen panels to attach to. They are 0.025" sheet. I'm going to be picking up a tip from local builder Jon Elissalde and using flox and epoxy resin to make what he refers to as liquid shims. That will priovide a robust backing to rivet into, so the spandrel to fuselage join will be riveted together.
