Brief Description:  Rear Canopy, Cont'd. Plus Drawings

Continued working on the rear canopy. I have the top of the canopy completed structurally. Sometime this week the BSPS-44 rivets will arrive and I can get them installed. The canopy would slide forward perfectly, but becuase the front of the frame is much less stiff, it would rack slightly when pulled aft and start binding. So I dismantled the front bow and reassembled it with a 0.032" arch riveted in place. This solves the racking problem. Next up is to add some non-structural bulk to that arch, so I can mount some edge strip to it, and protect my head from the edge. Once it's bulked up, I can mount the draw latch to hold the rear canopy closed, and then take it all apart so I can epoxy paint the canopy interior.

Most of my time this weekend was spent measuring the plane and drawing up plans. The Thatcher Builders' Group on Group.io generated some interest in the fastback tail cone and the sliding canopy from other builders. One of the things I love about the homebuilder community is that we really do help each other out. So hopefully the plans I put together will either allow someone to do this modification easier than I did, or allow them to come up with a better way to do it, or at the very least look at the modification they were thinking of and realize they don't really want to do it. Any way you slice it, I hope it helps.
