Brief Description:  Skybolt Flanges on Firewall #4

I started working on the flanges for the lower right side of the firewall. The instructions noted that starting from the bottom corner and working up the side was a good place to begin. Since I have had no experience installing Skybolt flanges it seemed good to me.

I started on the corner flange which really needed a lot of bending to conform to the corner. Once I had that flange cleko clamped, I moved up the side. I was just leaving them stock to see how it would come out. I could have sat, measured, and tried to "do the math" but any miscalculation could result in scrapped flanges......better to go live and then see what adjustment to the flanges. At least that is my opinion.

So having placed all the flanges without modifying, the result was about 1 inch had to come off along the flanges. I double checked and began to modify the flanges and reposition them. When they were all installed the measurements came out good! As a matter of fact they are about 3 3/8 as opposed to 3.5 inches apart....which is good.

Next I worked on the two flanges that will go on the bottom of the firewall to hold that area. I trimmed onr flange too much so had to grab another one and get it where I needed it. Got it fit and good to go.

This portion of the Skybolts was a bit more difficult than the top.....but now the second side should go quicker. I really wanted these around the firewall because the two fasteners on the lower firewall will be a lot easier to remove and install than the hinge pins!
