Brief Description:  Design & fab heater arm attach hardware

Having set the angle in place tonight I worked on the hardware to actually attach the cable to the heater box door arm.

The arm is made out of thin stainless. I did not want the arm to take the stress of the cable pull to open the door. I made a cable stop to stop the pull on the cable. I made the same thing for the oil cooler plenum door. The stop will slide and adjust on the cable so the stop will hit the end of the cable and the pull will not put stress on the arm.

Next I made bushings that will slide on the AN3-10 bolt. The bolt will be inserted into the arm and a washer slid on the top of the bolt and sit on the arm. Then the bushing will slide on and a nylock nut will go on and be tightened until the desired "looseness" for the bolt to swivel is attained.

Next I drilled the end of the bolt and tapped it for a 6-32 screw. I drilled a 1/16 hole perpendicular to the bolt for the control cable to slip in. The cap screw will then go into the end of the AN bolt and tighten on the cable. Should work well....will work on routing the cable next session.

You may ask...."If you only have one heater box, then why did you make two of each parts?" Well it is easier to make extra parts while you are set up. Since my buddy Jim is also building an RV8 I figured I'de ask him if he wanted one. We have helped each other numerous times with sharing parts and "intell" that has worked great during our builds.....so just in case he is interested I have an extra!
