Brief Description: Manifold for smoke system (cont)
I continued with machining the manifolds. One for my smoke tank and the other for my buddy Jim in TX.
I started with drilling the supply hole down the length of the manifold. Then I had to bore the tap size for the 3/8 pipe thread because I didn't have a 37/64ths drill. I set up the boring head and bored the holes to .578. Next it was countersink and tap the hole. This hole was for an AN816-6-6 fitting that has a pipe thread on one end and flare fitting on the other. This will be the main supply line to the four feeder lines for the smoke.
I moved on to the manifold feeder holes for the AN816-4-4 fittings. I tried spacing the feeder fitting locations close as possible without making it a pain to get a wrench on the fittings to tighten them. So I drilled the 7/16 hole and tapped them for the feeder fittings.
The final step was to drill holes in between the feeder holes to secure the manifold to the airframe. I checked and double checked that I wouldn't be breaking into any feeder or main supply holes.
