Brief Description:  Forward Baggage Cover Panel #3

While pondering the screw locations on the fuselage right side longeron angle, I searched Aircraft Spruce for nutplate clips. I found several and bought a few for 8-32 & 10-32 screws. I felt they would be far easier to install than regular nutplates given the confined space. I decided to use the 8-32 Floating Clip Nuts. They sit very flat on the angle. All you do is drill the clearance hole in the location and slide the clip nut in place and it snaps in. For this panel it will work great and saved a lot of hassle trying to rivet a standard nutplate in the location.

So, I drilled the three locations for the angle on the outside fuselage wall and inserted the nutplates. I will use my poor mans transfer screws to punch the location of the holes in the panel next session.

I then got out the rivet gun and determined how to attack getting my support bracket riveted. I was finally able to get to the location with an offset rivet set sufficiently and the bucking bar underneath. Set the rivets successfully.

I marked the screw locations on the inside edge of the cover where it will attach to the baggage area floor. I have decided to cut out a door in the new cover with a hinge in order to have easy access to the electrical bay....it adds extra work but I think it is prudent and will be worth it.
