Brief Description:  Cockpit Floor #4

This was a long work day in the shop. I am splitting it up into two sessions because I did the floor and Rob came over and assisted me in bonding the canopy fairing.

I got out in the shop and machined the floor. It wasn't a simple process due to being such a big piece and having to rotate it and shift positions several times. I had to use carbide tools and coolant to keep thing cutting well.

After getting it all machined and deburred I brought it back into the basement to try it. It fit well but there is a 6 degree down bend that is required for the RV8 floor ramp area. I got out my hardwood bending brake and fastened it to the table and bent it till I got the proper reading on the electronic angle level. I tested it out and it fit great...I marked the holes for the rear of the rudder pedal assembly. I put the holes for the pedals through the stainless flooring.

After a lot of checking and rechecking I laid the tape on the panel. With the help of my lovely bride Kathryn we got the floor in position and laid it down and got it bonded to the floor. Unfortunately I had it about 1/16 inch too far to the left which still fit fine but the pedal holes were not centered.....so taking my dremmel I was able to add a little more clearance for the bolts. The holes are covered by the weldment so nothing will be seen.
