Brief Description:  Static Ports

I went back into the shop to put the hole through the center of the static ports. The entire static port is made on the lathe, except for the hole. I have abig 14 inch gear head lathe...the drill chuck is large and sometimes will drill a little bit out of concentricity. The mill machine will do the job better with a good set-up. So I got a good set up in the mill and drilled the hole through the center....came out very nicely.

Next I measured and drilled the holes in the airframe at the locations called out on the prints. I first made a test piece of .032 aluminum sheet to test if the step drill would make the hole the right size to fit the port 1/4 inch portion that would protrude through the hole in the skin. The step drill worked perfectly leaving just a little to scrape the inside of the hole and fit the static port perfectly on both sides!

I am going to Proseal the ports onto the inside of the airplane. My proseal is pretty old...from 2013. I would never seal tanks with it....but I see no problem with using it to adhere things here and there. I used it to put the NACA vent on the left side of the fuselage and it holds fantastic. Just going to use the test piece to assure it is still working good for the static ports. I grabbed some scrap aluminum and made a proseal test piece......to assure the results which I predice will be positive.
