Brief Description:  Subpanel cutout design

The sub panels have a bolt that attach on each side to the F-816 Cockpit Rails. I want the instrument subpanel covers I am making to be removable, so I am making clearance to go around the bolt where the sub panels attach.

Next I began to design the cutout in the subpanels where the covers I am making would attach. I thought of riveting them, but after thinking about it I decided to use nutplates. I want the subpanel covers to be removable for easier access. The RV-8 is very tight quarters when it comes to working in the interior....especially behind the panel. I probably won't have much on the subpanels but to be able to remove them to to work on switches or whatever I have mounted. The reason for the clearance is much the same....to put switches on the subpanels Rick reminded me that if I didn't cut clearance in the subpanels then any switches would have to go through 1/8" thick material which may be a challenge for some switches. Plus I wanted the covers removable.

I measured and drew the cutout area and placement of the nutplates....will make the cut next session.
