Brief Description:  Battery Tiedown Planning

I sat down and decided to sketch a little bit on my graph paper some thoughts in my head about how I want to design the battery tray in my aircraft. I decided I don't want it in the back, or hang it on the firewall. I decided to use the rear portion of the foward baggage compartment lower section.

The battery would sit close to the front of the right gear tower toware the back of the lower compartment. This would put the center to center of the battery locations about 15 inches behind the firewall location. That would mean the weight and arm would shift further back towards the landing gear. I was concerned about having a center of gravity (CG) that was too far forward when I was flying solo and giving me a nose heavy feel. Mind you it would be within CG but it would tend to be nose heavy....some people run out of trim and just have to muscle the difference.
So it would suit to put it either on the firewall or in the rear....I am just trying to shift it a little more back.....just a preference thing.

The other advantage is keeping the battery out of the extreme climate in the engine compartment. It's not a paramount issue...airplanes for years have had done so.....I just think the battery may be more accessable and may extend the life if it's in the less extreme environment.

Anyway....that's why it's an experimental right?
