Brief Description:  Set Elevator Controls

Now that I got the sticks in the airplane and all the elevator controls ready....the plans call for adjusting the control sticks so they are perpendicular to the upper longeron. I rechecked the level of the fuselage, and then checked the perpendicularity of the control stick on the front control. I figured since the two sticks were parallel then I would just have to set the front and all will be ok. So adjusting meant crawling in the tailcone in an awkward position.

I thought and came up with an idea. I used some strong magnets I had and placed one inside and outside of the airplane fuselage skin(since aluminum is non-magnetic) and while they held each other, I placed a string under the interior magnet to hold the string. I had a set on each side of the airplane fuselage. Using a level against the pivot point of the front stick, I determined the position where the stick had to be in order to be perpendicular. Using a scale I measured the level perpendicularity and the current stick position. When I came up with that measurment which was around one inch....I set the string about one inch behind the stick and could adjust the forward rod end bearing of the F-841 Pushrod to adjust the stick till it came back to the string as per plans. I checked the stick with a level and found it to be perfect!

The next task will be to begin adjusting the DOWN elevator stop.
