Brief Description:  Cockpit Floors

As usual deburring always proves to be time consuming if you do it right! So I began working on the front floor F-829. After it was deburred I prepared the front stiffner F830BPP by deburring it. Next it was match drilled and dimpled along with the floor skin. Before riveting it I prepared the angle F805C by clecoing it to the screw holes and match drilling the rivet holes in the angle using the punched holes in the skin as drill guides. Then I dimpled the skin. The angle had to be countersunk due to material thickness. With all the parts prepared I used my backrivet set to install all the rivets.....backriveting when you can is a great way to go...second only to the pneumatic squeezer!!!

With that done it was time to fabricate and install the bottom of the seat hinge for the front seat. I cut the hinge to specified length and deburred. I had to lay out the dimensions to get it in the proper position on the floor skin in order to drill the rivet holes in alignment with the prepunched holes.

I have found a handy little helper for such operations....double sided sticky tape. By putting a couple small pieces of d/s tape on the hinge I was able to line up my position markings perfectly and then press the hinge to the skin. Next while the tape held the hinge in place I took a couple clamps and secured the hinge for drilling....it works FANTASTIC!!

With all the holes drilled I deburred the hinge and skin. These holes are AN470 rivets which do not get dimpled or countersunk. So it was old fashioned rivet gun and bucking bar.....first floor skin is complete...yippee!
