Brief Description:  Elevators

Took off the blue plastic protective coating from the elevator skins. This empennage kit that I bought was manufactured in 2005. It is possible in rare circumstances for the plastic to become old and brittle that it becomes impossible to get off. Fortunately I have been able to get the plastic off all the pieces withoug much trouble. I was afraid that the plastic might be an issue when I was interested in buying the kit, the owner sent me a video showing me that the plastic was coming off fine. For the parts being almost 8 years old, they look shiney new when the blue comes off!!! It took a little more time to remove the plastic from these skins because the skin is a lot thinner than the verticle and horizontal stabs.

I began the process of just sitting down and deburring all the elevator parts. The shear marks must be removed and the edges get smoothed and a radius is put on all edges. The reason for this is to mitigate cracks from vibrations. Sharp edges lend to metal stress and potential for cracking. So the tedious and boring task of deburring is really one that must be accomplished with care and diligence. So that took the greatest number of hours in this work session.
