Once again we have started traveling for work following the pandemic. I had to go to a trip in DFW and my rollerbag has been increasingly making noise as it rolls. On this last trip I was afraid that the wheels were going to get jammed or something as it was really making noise. I determined that I just needed to get the wheels fixed.....due to the fact that the bag is still in really decent shape I really wanted to keep it as it expands and I have loved using it....she just has a lot of miles on it.
Well I ordered some parts late last Thursday and surprisingly they came in on Saturday from old faithful McMaster-Carr. I decided that I just needed to get it done so Sunday shop time was devoted to pulling apart and working on the wheels. I got four new bearings. I had to machine out the holes for the new bearing diameters which were about 1/16 inch larger than the old ones. I made a quick fisture and set them up and machined them for a finger press fit.
Using shoulder bolts and some washers I put them back together. Rolls like a champ without ANY noise! Total price to repair was less than $40 for bearings that are far superior to the ones I removed and ground shoulder bolts and locking nuts. Ready for another 10 years of traveling service!!!
