Brief Description:  RV Training in Florida

Well the insurance company for Rick said I needed 5 hours dual in tailwheel RV. The training was done in an RV-6. It is a side by side seat aircraft. It is a little different from the RV-8 but they fly basically the same. The loading of the tandem seating on the -8 will give the aircraft a different feel as it is flown solo or with a "guy or gal in back"(GIB).

Due to so many commitments I really had to get the training done this weekend. Kathy was going to NY for working on wedding plans with the girls, and I headed down Florida to get the training. The weather looked ok during the week but as the weekend approached the forcast began to look a little grim. A frontal system that passed through the region became stalled when it came to Florida. That is not real common for Florida....but nonetheless i was met by heavy rain and low clouds. It didn't seem as though I would be able to get the training accomplished and I considered catching a flight back to VA and just looking at another date although it would be down the road.

After talking to Jan....who said there was a slim chance of ceilings enough for pattern work and possibly the airwork the next day,,,,,my wife felt I should stay and see what would happen. Well I began to drive the 2+ hours to Jan's place figuring it would be good to get out of the house and see what happened. About 15 miles from his place the sky began to lighten....the reain ceased and I could see the ceiling getting higher!

I got to Jan's (after some GPS induced misdirection). We worked on the ground portion for quite a while. By the time we finished the ground the ceiling was good for pattern work. We preflighted and got airborne. We flew 10 short miles to Okeechobee Airport (KOBE). Before going to the airport we went towards the lake and performed airwork...turns/stalls/maneuvers. Then we perfromed mock traffic patterns with a hard deck to simulate the runway. After about an hour and a half we landed at OBE and took a break.

We then took off again and began take
