Brief Description:  Complete and Bond Stiffiners

I got everything moved out to the shop to bond the foam pieces. I tried to position the stiffiners where they would provide the greatest support to the wingtip. I set the inboard stiffiner parallel to the wingtip edge, but the outboard stiffiner I angled somewhat to sit better and offer what I felt would be more support......a lot of this is more art than science.

I did one wingtip at a time with a batch of epoxy for each session. I started with a bit of a dry micro and spread it on the bottom of the stiffiner. I had marked the location of each stiffiner in the wingtip with a Sharpie so after coating the bottom I went and set it in the wingtip and pressed it down to squeeze the micro down and out. I worked the outboard first then the inboard. I then used a popsicle stick and spread micro all around the perimeter.....primarily to give it some fillets for the fiberglass to lay well as fiberglass does not like sharp corners.

While that was setting a bit I had the 2 inch pieces of fglass cut to length and sitting on a board covered with wax paper. I mixed a batch of epoxy and wet the fglass with the epoxy. I once again started from the outboard stiffiner and laid the glass on the stiffiner and using my gloved hands patted and formed the fglass around the foam stiffiners. I then took strips of peel ply and laid them on top. I had the wingtip pins staged and ready by the wings and placed the wingtips on the wings so the curve of the tips would be in their installed position to allow the stiffiners to conform to them while drying.....at least that is my theory. So we will check them tomorrow.....and see!
