Brief Description:  OKC trip to pick up engine

I went out to build my engine at Barretts Precision Engines in March with the plan to pick it up when I had to teach for my job in April. Then COVID hit the country and with all the mayhem than ensued the teaching got canceled. I figured it would all be over by my next schedule trip in July. Boy was I wrong on that guess.

Anyway....my daughter in law and the grandsons were at her mothers in OKC and I had committed to pick them up when I went to OKC for the work trip which I intended to also pick up the engine. Well the July class was canceled also.

I decided to stick to the plan on going to get the engine and my grandsons. I headed out early July 15th. It was two days and 19 hour drive to OKC. I picked up the kids and went to Tulsa to get the engine. We drove the first day to St. Robert, MO (sounded like a great place to stay...haha) and stopped for the night. I wanted to stop at the STL Gateway Arch but called and it was closed. So we saw signs for Merrimac Caverns in Fulton MO and decided to stop and have fun for a few hours. We then pressed through to Lexington KY and stopped for the night. We decided to go first thing in the morning to the Ark Encounter and spent a few hours there as well...it was great!

We hit the road again and made the rest of the trip to the house in VA. Total drive home was 26 hours with diversions. All in all a fantastic adventure with the grandsons!
