Brief Description:  Wiring Harness installation

So I had texted Ralph a couple days earlier that my harness came in. He texted me back the next day saying....."lets get it in!" I wasn't going to give up the chance to have an experienced electron chaser assist with the harness endeaver.

He came over today and we began the process of looking at the harness and laying it out and planning. I put the boxes in the airplane and we started checking the harness lengths and checking things out. Unfortunatly we began to see that some of the branch lengths were not going to work out. I felt a pang of Oh Oh......

Ralph didn't get phased by what we found. We found that the remote transponder box part of the harness was about 3 inches shorter than needed and that the cable bundle would be too close to the left gear tower. Ralph's solution was to cut off all the lacing of this beautifully crafted harness and see what we can do. With that done we began to attach displays on the panel and Ralph rerouted wires. We had a lot of discussions and re-figuring. I have learned some things about planning a wire harness the HARD way! I should have added a minimum of 4-5 inches to each measurement. The wires going into the big connectors are far more stout that I planned on and take more room than I planned on.

The bottom line is I am having to do a little more re-planning. I made a new bracket for a new location for the GEA24 and have to move the remote transponder tray a couple inches to the right. Nothing impossible but I really was hoping for plug and play.....and now the harness will need to be re-laced.

Always seems as though various hurdles present themselves in the homebuilt project realm. This too shall be overcome.......
