Brief Description:  Measure and design antenna mount...the next episod

I climbed into the fuselage with measuring tools and began opening the canopy and sliding it back and forth and getting dimensions. The open canopy has a steady clearance of 1 3/4 inches between the canopy frame tube that holds the sliding mechanism and the fuselage. That is the max clearance I have to work with. I began to sketch up what I thought would work.

I decided that mounting a small angle on the top of the turtledeck and instead of trying to bend an angle just right for the antenna to clear, I am going to use a hinge. This will accomplish two things: First it will allow for easy adjustment of the angle to where I want to clear the canopy tubing. Secondly it releaves any stress on the mount panel itself and the angle that it is attached to so there is no stress on fuselage skin from the mount that is not bent exactly perfect.

I will then put two "feet" on the outboard portion of the mount that can be conformed to the fuse and mount them there to hold the outboard. That will take care of the problem of the compound angle of the fuse over 5 inches and the two different radiuses along the fuselage.

Anyway.....that's the plan. I think it is easy to fabricate and will work well.
