Brief Description:  Sand and SuperFil Canopy Skirt

I worked the canopy again today. I continued sanding the skirt from the .75 oz fiberglass cloth that I laid down the other day.

I have been communicating with Rick on the process for finishing the skirt as he is a great resource for finishing all things fiberglass. He recommended a product called SuperFil which is actually a two-part epoxy filler. I cleaned the canopy skirt to prep it. I mixed the filler as per directions. The filler has a pasty consistancy which I felt was a little thicker consistancy than I liked it to be....but I figured to use it as it is and didn't want to play around with it and cause problems.

I used a modified bondo spreader that I put radii on the corners for keeping lines from being made with the sharp corners of the spreader as well as being able to spread the filler into the radius where the skirt bends just before attaching up to the canopy.

I ended up mixing two batches and when that finished I elected to stop right there. I smoothed out the superfil as much as I could and then walked away. I am leaving tomorrow for a week of work travel to teach at the Academy in OKC. This will dry until next Saturday....we will check it out then. I am hoping it won't be a bear to sand.

On the next section I may try thinning a little bit with acetone.....we will see......
