I began the canopy handle in the last session to replace the handle I got in my Vans finish kit. The one provided by Vans is supposed to be from a standard supplier that makes them for the kit come off a John Deere tractor or something. Like I explained in the last log I messed up the kit handle and since I had stock in the shop that would work great I programmed the mill and cut the profile in the stock.
Today I continued in the process of finishing milling the handle profile along with putting a corner 1/8 radius around the handle profile. I then located the bottom of the handle and put the hole for the inside handle weldment to attach.
Next I drilled the hole for the attachment screw which I drilled, countersunk, and tapped. Then it was flipped over and the bottom of the handle material was removed and a corner radius was machined where the handle meets the main body of the attachment point.
I got it all deburred and cleaned up....it is ready to install....except for paint or anodize or ????
Honestly....I didn't "have to" remake the handle....but I felt it was an opportunity to keep my machining skills sharp and a good project.....I could have rescued the kit handle...so that is the story behind the story.
