I pulled the fairings off and then put a skim coat of micro on a few areas. I am not looking for "total smoothness" on the fairings....I think the slight texture and rawness will give it a good look. They are made using vacuum bagging so they come out nice to start with....so a little micro and sanding and I proclaimed them good.
While the micro was doing it's slow process of curing I decided to break off fiberglass and get back to some mechanical stuff such a putting the latch together. The only problem is that the drawings on the Van's bluepring really has a lot to be desired for an old toolmaker. I wasn't sure of the positioning and bolt location...some reason I had a brain block....called my buddy Jim and he claified it....thanks Jim! I had to do some filing and fitting to get the detent for the brass spacer to fit correctly. It felt good to do something without fiberglass!!!!
