Brief Description:  Cutting and Fitting the Canopy Part 3 - continued

(Same day continued)

We brought the canopy back into the shop and warmed the shop to 88 degrees before making the big cut. I have a great propane space heater that I bought years ago that warms up the area quickly!

Robs method involves doing the cut on a flat surface. He cut several slots in the canopy along the cut line we made with tape. As he cut he would pause and I would add a strip of gorilla tape to hold the canopy together while completing the other cuts to totally separate the two parts of the canopy. I was nervous, but the process worked extremely well!

After getting the canopy cut and separated we worked on getting the edges sanded and smoothed. We placed the canopy and windscreen back on the airplane and the lines and placement looks great.

Now it will be up to fitting the windscreen and canopy to the final dimensions which will involve more cutting....sanding...smoothing....and repeating again!

I really learned a lot working with Rob and I appreciate the experience gained as much as getting a successful BIG CUT! Thanks a million Rob :0)
