Brief Description:  Prep Canopy Frame for Canopy Fitting

I decided a long time ago that my canopy was going to be bonded to the frame rather than drilling holes and using screws and rivets to attach it. My friend Jim who is a bit ahead of me in building his RV8 has also been a build mentor for some of the processes.....the canopy bonding is no different. He bonded his canopy as well and it came out super!

I like the thought of the bonding process because it allows for better expansion and contraction of the canopy when temperatures change from hot to cold and vice versa. Holding the canopy mechanically with rivets does not allow for any movement....but both techniques have been used with satisfactory results for years.....so it's a matter of personal preference...mine is sika!

I found some hose in the plumbing dept at Lowes E/AB Aircraft Supply that I felt would work well for making the standoffs that would leave a gap for the sika adhesive to flow and bond the canopy. It is about .150 thousands which is between 1/8 and 3/16 inches. That ought to work well for a good canopy bond.

I cut the hose and then slit the pieces to be able to fit them around the tubing on the canopy frame. Everything seemed to work well....I used electrical tape to hold the hose on for now.

I then did a bunch of prep work and reading for this session.
