Brief Description:  Paint Topcoat on fairing and panels

I got an early start since I was getting a later start at work today and leaving for a work trip later.

Fortunately the weather was cooperating and it was warming up pretty quickly that I would be able to paint outside. I have a ladder and board with nails that I set up for outdoor painting. I had it ready and set it up quickly. I paint with Stewart Systems Paint and I like the waterborn paint because it makes cleanup a lot easier and have gotten used to working with it.

I have two quart cans left that have a small amount of topcoat left. I took the newer one with about one inch of paint inside. I grabbed the mixing instructions, hardener, and topcoat and went into the process of mixing after setting up the air hose and staging the parts. I got the scale out and mixed it by weight (grams) which is recommended. Actually Stewarts wants you to use a #4 Ford cup for viscosity....but that was not an option for me.

With all the paint mixed and in the gun I went about shooting the parts. I had to saturate the color on the fairing which meant minimum of three coats....a tack coat, a perpendicular tack coat, and finally the finish coat. I used about 4 coats. The panels only required a tack coat and finish coat due to having color saturation. The whole process didn't take long and I had just a little paint left in the cup when all was complete. Now they can cure while I am gone for work.
