I decided to tackle the aileron hinge project today.....at lease get it started.
I bought some upgraded aileron hinge brackets produced by former Vans employee Ken Krueger who has a company Sky Designs. When I saw the ad for the hinge upgrade I really liked the design and bought a pair for my project. They have been sitting on the shelf for a while and I felt now was a good time to get them installed.
I removed the old brackets on the left wing and cleaned out the area of all the dust. I began to read and get the process down. The new setup uses bearings and the bellcranks will need to be shortened. The important part is since they will be riding on bearings instead of a brass bushing it is important to get the bellcrank tube square on the ends......well to me that means making a fixture or setup to do so.
Kens instructions really walk you through the process and tells you where to get the measurements and gives you a line to put the measurements. By the end of measuring and simple subtraction you have the amount you need to remove from the end of the bellcrank. With the math complete I will make a setup or fixture to get the job done in a machinists kind of way!
