Brief Description:  Completed Drilling Top Cowling Hinge

Rob told me last weekend that he would come over one night this week and give a hand to finish drilling the upper hinge on the top cowl. It is a little difficult to do solo....but it can be done. I bought an ICON blade type flashlight at HF which would give better access for drilling hinge in the tight spots within the cowlling. The blade light has a long led bulb(800 lumens!!!) and for the purpose of shining it through holes it is too bright and broad. So I took a couple of small o-rings and using electrical tape with a punched hole that would hold the o-rings around the circumference but not block the light and laid the tape along the light lense. There was still too much light bleeding through the electrical tape so I used thick black Guerilla Tape to cover the electrical tape and that blocked all light from coming through.

Using the focused light coming through the o-rings we went hole to hole and as I positioned the light over each hole Rob would locate and drill them.....it made it go quickly. We completed the drilling in a bit less than an hour!

Thanks again to Rob for all the assistance in getting this cowl done......I would no doubt still be wrestling with it had I done it solo!!!
