Brief Description:  Red Cube Bracket

Having completed the cowling spacer it was time to move on to other items that need to be done.

I decided to tackle the bracket that I will use to hold the fuel flow sender known as the Red Cube in place. At this stage of the game the access to the area of the engine is a little cramped and hard to get into to measure accurately to get dimensions. Secondly, the engine castings have machined areas where the bolts that I am using are located.....it isn't one big flat surface, so the bracket attach points have to be profiled to fit in those areas.

So I pondered a little and felt the best way to get the brackets made to fit and decided on doing a clay impression. I took some clay and flattened it out and after cleaning the area of all oil I pressed the clay into the area. From the clay I was able to get an accruate hole distance of 2-9/16 inches between holes as well as the machined areas where the bracket would have to fit.

I use a paper to trace the areas where the clamp needed to fit with the clay impression and then cut out the pattern and traced it on a 1/16 aluminum angle. I removed all the metal that I needed to so it would fit flat on the bolt areas. I profiled the bracket a little with the scotch brite wheel. I placed the bracket on the engine and it fit well except a little clearance that is needed in the green dot area on the bracket due to the casting coming to a point in that area I will have to clear it out a little......but it is getting close and then I will cut the front of the bracket to clear out much of the metal after deciding where I need to place the hole to attach the cube to the mount.

A little work....but it is coming along nicely!
