Brief Description:  Cowlng Spacer

Before leaving for a work trip I had a little time to go out to the shop and finish the spacer that will provide the right distance between the fiberglass cowling and the spinner when the propeller is put on the airplane.

I am setting the gap for .200 with the spacer. I completed the threads in the holes for the spacer ring and only have to make the front plate that the cowling will fit against. In order to keep everything concentric I put three pins that will locate the front plate, which is 13 inches in diameter, as well as the six 10-32 screws that will hold it in place. The front plate will only require being cut to the 13" diameter and the screw and pin holes machined and the fixture will be complete and ready for use! Having the 2-axis Prototrak CNC mill really makes cutting the diameters and bolt circles a breeze.....especially with the upgraded machine control!
