Brief Description:  Landing Gear and Sensors

Once again I had the wonderful assistance of Ralph the Electron Chaser.

Our first goal was to get the landing gear.......wheels, tires, axles, and fairing parts. I had the wheels and tires on and ready to go. We then ran into a snag. While trying the wheel on the axle and putting the nut on it, we found that the nut stopped dead with almost 1/8 inch space between it and the spacers. What ensued is a lot of time to try and figure out what was going on....wrong axle? Wrong spacers? Grove wheel and Vans axle mismatch?

While looking at the threads in the axle nut I saw that there was still about 3/8 inch of space inside the nut that had no threads and wondered why the nut was not threaded deeper during manufacture. Well I suspected the nuts were not made correctly....but with two the same way I scratched my head a little. Anyway after speaking it over with Ralph we knew that a call to Grove or Vans would be needed to resolve the issue which would have to wait until Monday.

I went on to other things as did Ralph. He decided to tackle the sensor wires. We bought new sockets and pins rather than use the auto wire sockets so that we could use aircraft quality wire in the sockets for the sensors. Ralph took his time and did a fantastic job getting the new sockets made and the wires run.

All in all a good day despite the roadblocks. Thanks Ralph!
