Brief Description:  Wing Tip Ribs

Got back in the shop after seven days of busyness with the holidays. With my wife retiring at the end of the month we no longer need our commute car and our son Brett asked a couple months ago if we would sell it to him when we didn't need it any longer. Well I decided the best time to drive it down was over Christmas....so I left Thursday Dec 23rd and after a grueling 15 hour ride got to Palm Bay Florida where I spent a couple days and flew back on Christmas day.

Started off the session with sanding the right switching panel. I had used the water transfer labels for the panel and decided to go to another transfer label that my buddy Jim is using. I had some water transfer labels come off inadvertantly and it convinced me that the labels may not be the best for my project. So the water transfer labels kind of left a discoloration on the panel so a sand and rattle shoot was in order. I have the transfer decals on order so now it is up to waiting.

I moved on to working on the wingtips again. The left wingtip rib was only rough cut out so I had to finish it by deburring it and making the corner reliefs for bending the flange on the front end. With both wing tip ribs complete (except for the hinge retainer bolt) I went in the shop to get the wingtips in order to get the ribs inserted and drilled.

I had located the ribs in an earlier session with the tips on the wing in order to make sure the ribs were not too far back or forward but positioned to maintain the wing tip curve consistant with the wing. I had placed lines with the sharpie to mark the location. So the prints stated to drill the rivet holes 1 1/2 inches apart but after measuring each span of the wing flange I divided the measurement to make them consistant. None were exactly 1.5 inches but they are equally spaced. By the end of the session I had both wingtips drilled and wing tip ribs match drilled and ready to countersink and rivet.
