Brief Description:  Left Wing TIp

I decided to start working on the left wing tip to continue the process that Rick and I started.

I removed the wing tip and cleaned out the chips and dust. I had marked the tips prior to removal so I would have the cut line to remove the flange that would be used as a spacer for the wing side.

I removed the hinges for the inboard side of the tip. I decided to leave the outboard hinge in the tip to add stiffness and stability during cutting. While contemplating the cut I felt that there was too much "flop" in the wing tip to hold it stable while cutting. I decided to make supports that would help hold things steady since I would be doing this solo.

I had some left over stiffners for the elevator that I had to rebuild a couple years ago when it crashed to the floor while working on the fiberglass tips. The stiffners would work perfectly for the standoffs. Using snips and my seaming pliers I made supports to cleko to the inside of the wing tip. What a difference....the edges are supported nicely and should be very helpful in giving stability for the cutting process......those stiffeners would have probably never been used for anything anyway so they worked perfect for the job!

Cutting can now begin.
