Brief Description:  GIB LEMO

A pretty frustrating night in the shop. I HAVE to get the GIB LEMO run and the AMP connector has to be removed to do so. I should have not had them put it on the harness prior to shipping it...but you don't know what you don't know and hindsight is always 20/20.

The theory is that a regular Dsub pin removal tool is supposed to get these pins out. I have used the tool to remove numerous pins and have never had a problem....but try as I may I could not get a single pin to come out! Out of frustration I was able to pry the socket apart and disassemble it which was no easy task trying hard not to break it. I finally got it apart and saw how the pins were inserted which confirmed the Dsub tool should have been able to remove the pins.

I put the connector back together and tried the tool again looking closely to see any problems. Well the socket pin location in the AMP connector appeared to be deeper than a normal Dsub and it looked as though the width of the removal tool may have been keeping the tool from going deep enough to unlock the keeper in order to remove the pin.

Using a pair of small needle nose pliers I had to bend and modify the pin removal tool. After working on the tool carefully in several renditions.....I finally was able to get it to fit and remove a pin. A while later I finally had all the pins removed.....a real headache. I was able to confir with Ralph which helped......finally I can route this wire!!!
