Brief Description:  Headset Jacks-Pilot

I snuck a little time in the project and decided to get the PIC position determined and drilled for the headset non-powered jacks. You cannot avoid putting things in and through the RV8 gear towers in my opinion. I am just doing all I can to keep them from getting packed with stuff if at all possible.

I made a small template with two holes drilled 1 inch apart for the jack spacing and looked around for the best location to install them. I played around with various locations....verticle or horizontal orientations.....but finally settled with angling them parallel with the gear tower angle.

Using the small template with the two #40 holes drilled for the spacing and some double sided sticky tape I located the template and drilled the pilot holes.

Next it was the step drill to drill the holes out to 7/16. Then the normal deburring routine. Finally I installed and secured the LEMO and inserted the jacks and installed them. They were kindof a pain to install as about everything is in the gear tower with contorting hands and arms....but got them in. I pondered using a washer and safety wire to pull the sockets in place which works great but I was able to get them in place without doing so. The safety wire trick works well because if you have washers they won't fall due to the safety wire going through the jack hole.

Anyway....one more item complete.
